Exploring a New City? Carry These Bag Essentials

ajumma travels

There are the obvious things we reach for whenever leaving for the day like our wallet, keys, and phone. While travel “essentials” may vary, here are some items to carry with you as you explore a new city. Feel free to mix and match based on your itinerary or destination!

Bag Essentials for Any Trip

Versatile bag

When I travel, I like to keep it basic with a versatile bag that can fit everything for the day. This Baggu tote bag is perfect for strolling around in the city. If I’m feeling more outdoorsy or going on a hike, I prefer a Timbuk2 sling bag/crossbody. To add to the bag-ception, I carry a Baggu re-usable bag in case I find snacks or snag a great vintage find.

Essentials Pouch

Try storing everything in pouches to keep clutter to a minimum. I usually pack everything from an external battery and cords to hygiene items like hand sanitizer and Aesop’s Geranium Leaf Body Balm in a small organizer.

ENTERTAINMENT

Carry something to keep entertained while in transit or if you want to slow down by reading a book in a cafe. I keep my Bose SoundSport Headphones, Kindle, and notebook and pen handy when traveling. Check out your local public library for books or audiobooks and use apps like Libby to access while on the go.

SNACKS

Can a person have enough snacks? Perhaps… I like to pack a protein bar, nuts, and mints in case I get a little hungry throughout the day or a friend needs a little pick me up. I’ll also peruse a market or grocery store to try local snacks and produce.

Another key essential is staying hydrated! I love the Hydro Flask bottles (24oz) for water or a thermos like the Fellow Carter Wide Mug (12oz) and the Frank Green Original Reusable Cup (12oz) for warmer drinks.
